Lessons in Marketing from Disney

Disney really knows what they are doing, keeping kids, and let’s be honest...adults, entertained for years. Guilty.

What is it that is so comforting about these movies and TV shows? The bright colors? The way they present the upcoming movies and shows? Or maybe the fact that they bring us back to childhood. For whatever reason, Disney is making it work. As the #1 network for preschoolers, they deserve some credit. I commend them every time I need to put my kid in front of the TV to accomplish things such as; cleaning, work, or maybe just that break that every parent deserves.

Put it Out There

If you have ever shopped in the birthday aisle, at pretty much any store, you will see a huge assortment of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Cars, Toy Story and so much more Disney paraphernalia. They even sell clothes with the Mickey and Minnie Mouse logos on them. The point is, they really put it out there on display. The colors are eye catching (especially for our children). I have said before, and I'll say it again: we are all visual people, and Disney really uses this to their advantage.

I am sure most of you who are moms and dads, or even close family members, can recite at least one Disney song. I know my whole family can. They have especially perfected “The Hot Dog Dance.” Disney uses a very repetitive system, and this is what has surely helped make them so successful.

Create Magic & Comfort

Disney sells excitement and stories that we love and will never forget. As marketers, we should strive to be just like them. If we put that much dedication in our work and love what we do as much as Walt Disney did, we can be just as successful. We need to create magic and make our readers feel the same comfort that they feel when they turn on that amazing Disney movie.
